TFS#107: Arm Triangle, Fix Your Neck, & Rushing
“To lose patience is to lose the battle.” —Mahatma Gandhi
When we inch closer to our goals, it’s common to feel the rush.
The rush of excitement to finally reach what you’ve been dreaming of.
But don’t let your mind get ahead of yourself.
You train to maintain the discipline so you can finish strong.
Be patient, continue to move forward.
Only time will allow you to cross the finish line.
Now back to our focus…
TECHNIQUE OF THE WEEK
Head and Arm Choke
Last week, I mentioned the importance of passing to Mount instead of Side Control.
Think about your favorite ways to pass the guard.
Now if you’re getting to Side Control, adjust that technique to get to Mount.
If you’d like help with this exercise, reply to this email with “mount” and your most common passing method.
When in Mount, a great attack is the Head and Arm Choke.
🔑 Key detail: Settle your hips down in the Low Mount to maintain control of your opponent’s hips. When your hips are high, they’ll have more mobility to bump and try to bridge.
🔑 Key detail: When you’ve establish the Head and Arm position, you don’t need to rush the choke. Maintain control, slowly make it tighter. If you feel like you need to sink your hips lower to maintain control of the Mount, prioritize the position.
Here’s a great run through by Roger Gracie.
It translate well in Gi and Nogi.
And it’s a great place to make them panic
Exactly where you want them to be.

CLOSING THOUGHT
Not just for white belts
But in reality, it applies to all of us.
There’s not need to rush.
Instead, think about finishing strong, rather than rushing to the end.
It’s just like finishing a submission.
Don’t allow your excitement to rush your submission—only to completely lose the position.
Don’t rush your progress.
You’ll get your promotion, with due time.
Trust yourself above all else.
See you on the mats,
Wayne
