TFS#124: Counter Guard Pullers, Full Body From Home, & Staying Ahead

This concept is the best way to stop a guard puller...

Today’s newsletter is coming from Ireland!

I needed to take a short break from training Jiu-Jitsu (and other parts of life) in order to reflect and recalibrate my goals.

This year has proven challenging, but I’m very happy with what I’ve accomplished so far.

Especially with this newsletter and the engagement from you, the reader!

If you have any questions about training or starting a newsletter, feel free to get in touch with me.

Even if you’re not directly talking to me, your clicks and participation in the bottom surveys helps me adjust future newsletter to better serve you.

Thanks again for being part of my journey, and I’m happy to be a part of your’s.

Now, on to today’s topics…

TECHNIQUE OF THE WEEK

Countering Guard Pullers

One goal of mine this year was to start Judo and Wrestling. And although it hasn’t been easy, it’s been extremely rewarding—it’s even improved my guard pulling.

Splashing Judo and Wrestling into my game has given me a better understanding of balance, weight distribution, and even guard pulling.

But pay attention to his setups to get the Osoto.

The drill he uses at 3:23 is a useful way to feel the balance.

JIU-JITSU LONGEVITY

Full Body From Home

This is a simple program I’ve been sticking to when I travel and don’t have access to a gym.

It works perfectly wherever you may be.

The “Show More” in the information box will give you example programs.

CLOSING THOUGHT

Stay One Step Ahead

It makes sense right? You always want to be in a position where your opponent’s next move has to be a defensive one and your next move can adapt to their defensive maneuver.

If you keep this up, you’ll wear them down which helps you solidify your submission attempt.

To develop this ability to stay one step ahead, you have to be patient. Each move you make to counter your opponent’s defensive move requires experience to develop.

And we know you can’t substitute experience.

See you on the mats,

Wayne

P.S. You have to step away to see the bigger picture. Otherwise you’ll feel like you’re driving in the dark on a narrow road that’s hanging off a cliff just above the Atlantic Ocean…

But before you go...
