TFS#134: Passing Concepts, Ankle Joints, & My Change

Before I continue to give you more techniques, let's take a look at a conceptual idea so you can better use the tools you already have...

In partnership with

I’m working on it with my friend, Black Belt Anthony Caito who breaks down positions like no other. In addition to providing techniques, he’ll share the true purpose of passing, and help you approach your passing holistically.

Just like this newsletter, it’ll be actionable, and digestible.

You won’t want to sleep on it.

The same way you wouldn’t sleep on your recovery….

If you want to train more Jiu Jitsu, you need sleep. It’s simple, there is no substitute for sleep.

Now, on to today’s topics…

Simplifying your guard system.

This is what you need to understand to pass.

If you’re struggling to understand “passing,” keep in mind that it’s only a fraction of Jiu Jitsu.

You probably know some passing techniques already, and knowing more doesn’t necessarily make your passing better.

How you use them is what helps you pass. But you have to know how to use them.

If you’ve got a few techniques down, I think that’s enough. It’s a matter of connecting and understanding the technique you’re executing rather than learning more techniques.

This joint doesn’t get enough love.

Because it affects how you move and the angles you move at.

And we know Jiu Jitsu is a game of inches.

It’ll also help you with your squat mechanics.

Why chaining your passing is important.

Here’s a bit of what I’m going through.

I’m in the middle of a big transition.

Moving gyms is never easy for me, I’m sure you know from past experience.

But I started to realize I’ve saturated the material I learned from this gym and had to expand my game.

I know I have the luxury of getting to choose from a plethora of gyms near where I live.

Nonetheless, I have to do what’s best for my Jiu Jitsu. I have to do what’s best for my craft.

Stick true to your craft and it won’t fail you.

Have a great week,

Wayne
