TFS#135: Aggressive Guard, Gas Tanks, & Empty Words

Is your instructor a bad communicator? How good are they at getting a point across?

In partnership with

Get started now and you’ll be ahead of everyone else when the new year is here.

Now on to today’s topics…

Broaden your vision with last week’s concept.

Last week I shared a little about passing concepts.

All you need to to do improve by 1% is to apply one of these concepts in your next sparring rounds.

Sweeps from this guard.

As you learn about sweeping from Half Guard, the more you’ll learn about off balancing.

Again, it’s the perfect example of not having to use all your strength to sweep.

You shouldn’t have to lift someone’s body weight off of you.

Better body for the gas tank.

Build a body that can take advantage of a better gas tank.

You can do these exercises that don’t require any equipment. (But it includes some if you do have them!)

Especially if you’re traveling this holiday season and don’t have access to a gym.

More resources and sponsors you’d find helpful.

Words matter.

"Don't focus on promotions…"

"Just keep coming to class…"

"It'll make more sense with time...."

Although these words are not untrue, they do leave you a little empty.

And I’d like to see more follow-up with those words.

Instructors should be using more actionable sentences like:

"Come by 15 minutes early and you can do some extra drilling."

"Let me show you what you can improve."

"Try this for the whole week and make mental notes for this position."

We (as a community) should hold our instructors to hire standards.

No more of these generic motivational speeches or empty advice.

I’ll see you on the mats,

Wayne
