TFS#143: The Leg Lock Chain & Instructional Update!
Instead of trying to stitch together your own game, you can follow this easy system. And from here, you can build off of this simple system here...
I hope you’ve had a productive January.
This month has been hectic as I’m continuing to help those who have been impacted by the fires while settling into a new home myself.
But as usual, find the time to train, even when you don’t feel like it.
So let’s get start…
Before you attack a heel hook—or defend one—you need to know this system…
…Or if you don’t want to be that jerk who puts out your teammate for months because you don’t realize how strong a heel hook is, I highly recommend you follow along.
Because not only are you putting your partner at risk, but on the defensive side, you might be putting yourself in a worse position.
With that said, there is one key detail you need to keep in mind: control the hips.
If and when their hips come loose, you’re most likely going to lose the position.
If you’re trying to put on weight to move up in weight class, be sure you’re getting it from a reliable source.
Usually it’ll come in the form of protein.

It’s a great way to supplement your dietary needs to become a better grappler.
The ankle lock comes before the heel hook.
You’ll establish the heel control through an ankle lock control.
But don’t fish for it too hard.
An update behind the curtains.
I know some of you have been waiting for the passing instructional.
And I apologize for the delay but we wanted to make sure it’s clear, concise, and is actually going to make an impact in your game.
But it’s going well, the material has been written and thought out.
Now the easy part: filming.
As of now, I hope you’re enjoying the YouTube videos Kata has been sharing these past few weeks.
I find that these small, simple systems are really all you need to have a strong fundamental game.
And it is designed to work for everyone of all levels and body sizes.
Until next week, keep on rolling!
