TFS#15: Everyone Benefits From Cutting
It's not just food we need to account for.
When I say cutting, I mean information cutting.
There’s a lot of great resources out there on the internet.
But there’s too much…
So how do you choose what’s best for you?
Most people will watch as much as they can.
Whether it’s YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok, or whatever the platform may be, there’s tons of material.
And people watch as much as possible…because social media conveniently queues the next content.
But it can actually be detrimental to your development on the mats.
It’s simple: information overload.
On top of that, most people don’t stay on topic.
Add on the delicious recipes, memes, and whatever your friends are up too…and you’ve got yourself a distracted study session.
So we’ll need to cut. Not all of it, but most of it.
Actionable Items
Stick to the topic your instructor is covering for the week. If you want to explore, stick to one other topic.
Try what you just watched before watching another video. Don't overload your brain, you'll forget more than you remember.
Consume material in a focused environment. Don't do it on your bus ride or waiting in line.
Take hand-written notes. Keep a journal.
Bonus: Read this newsletter (I'm bias)

One Closing Thought
Everyone likes simple.
No one likes complicated.
This about this next time you decide to share an technique or concept with a teammate.
Especially for white belts...let's not overcomplicate things for them.
Growth is made through accurate, consistent, and purposeful pushes.
